The year end is upon us and the time to rest and retreat for winter is here. Time to hibernate like the bear and take care of our selves as our reserves need to last us through the winter.

We are excited to offer you our final herbal csa box of the year: Winter. Everything in your box has been grown and made here on our homestead. The content in these boxes is solely ruled by nature and the seasons. Majority of the items you will find inside are best harvested or only available in the winter season. Fire Cider

Fire cider is an old folk remedy and a homemade fiery vinegar tonic. Made from lemon, orange, garlic, onion, horseradish, jalapeño, rosemary, ginger, thyme, oregano, garden sage, marjoram, cayenne & turmeric infused into apple cider vinegar then sweetened with local honey. Majority of ingredients are grown and harvested here on our homestead. Brewed in small seasonal batches to ensure the best of quality. Great to take a swig at the onset of cold and flu symptoms or even a hang over. It will help give your immune system a boost and also aid in digestion. Great tonic for the cardiovascular, immune and digestive systems within the body. Can be used as a salad dressing, marinade, added to dishes when cooking or just simply take a shot.

Cedar & Magnesium Lotion

Thick, creamy, antiseptic & astringent lotion crafted from natural ingredients. Respectfully foraged cedar infused into olive oil for many moons. Whipped together with shea butter, local beeswax, vitamin E, cedar infusion and magnesium chloride. Emulsified with sunflower lecithin and sodium tetraborate. Essential oil and chemical free,

cedar magnesium lotion can help your body to remove toxins and while absorbing important constituents. Magnesium is an important mineral that most people lack and can easily be absorbed through the skin. Magnesium supports your bodies overall health while cedar supports your bodies lymphatic and integumentary systems. In other words your largest most outer organ; your skin and your bodies filtering and protection system.

It can be applied to painful joints or muscles to improve blood supply and facilitate the removal of toxins from the body thus easing pain and stiffness in conditions like arthritis, restless legs and previous injuries. Great on itchy and dry skin. Can also be used to promote healing of injuries. It’s antifungal & astringent properties can make it great for fungal conditions or sweaty, smelly armpits or feet which all also happen to be areas with a lot of lymph nodes. 

Applying to the armpits is a great way to absorb these benefits. Can be applied to any problems areas or lymphatic areas: armpits,neck, groin, abdomen and chest. Cedar paired with magnesium is like a powerhouse team to help with many conditions associated with muscles, joints, skin and the lymphatic systems. 

A slight tingling sensation is a normal reaction to topical magnesium products. This will subside the more you use it. Remember like with any product always test on small patch of skin before applying to large parts of the body as everyone’s body is unique. Do not use on broken or freshly shaven skin.

 

Cedar

Cedar supports the bodies lymphatic and integumentary systems. In other words your largest most outer organ; your skin and your bodies filtering and protection system. It has antifungal, astringent and antiseptic properties.

Magnesium

Magnesium is a mineral that plays a crucial role in the health of our body and brains. It is involved in over 600 biochemical reactions that occur in our bodies. Including things like muscle movements, nervous system regulation, gene maintenance and energy creation. But surprisingly most people are deficient in magnesium.
Some symptoms of magnesium deficiency can include: 

  • fatigue
  • restless legs
  • muscle spasms, cramps, weakness and stiffness
  • loss of appetite
  • nausea 

 

When your body has optimal magnesium levels you can see a decrease in stress, migraines, muscle aches and pains and good overall mental and physical health.

Proper magnesium levels can also decrease the severity of other ailments like type 2 diabetes, depression, PMS, high blood pressure, chronic pain and inflammation. Applying magnesium topically is an effective way for the body to absorb and utilize this mineral.

Bush Balm

A hydrating balm made of the bush to help heal dry, cracked, irritated and sore hands. Also works great on bug bites, scratches and rashes. This balm is made of bear fat, mixed conifer resins, calendula, olive oil, sunflower oil and local beeswax. Oils have been infused for many moons and bear fat carefully rendered to make a potent end product. The healing properties of bear fat have been used for centuries by indigenous peoples to help heal rashes, burns, scrapes, arthritis, tendonitis and sprains. Apply topically to problem areas as needed. This salve is essential oil and chemical free. Enjoy the natural scents and healing of the bush.

 

Loose Leaf Tea Blend

In your box you will find some loose leaf the blends that we have made in small batches from herbs that are lovingly grown and harvested here on our land. Some of the herbs included are wild foraged herbs that we sustainably harvest and in return to the plants we help tend them and propagate them. Others are herbs we have grown and established on our own. You can incorporate these blends into your life by making your self a cup of tea but there is also other ways you can consume them if this is not your style. You can do a larger hot or cold infusion. Take 1-2 tbsp of herb per 1 cup of almost boiling water. Pour the water over the herb and let it steep for ten minutes. This can also be done with cold water but let it infuse overnight. Then when it’s finished you can drink throughout the day. You can also store it in the fridge for later or add to broths for a nourishing soup. You can also add the dried herb directly into a soup or stew for extra nourishment,

 

A Cup of Vitamin C Tea

A nutrient dense blend of herbs the help give you a boost of vitamin C when you need It the most; during cold and flu season. This not only tastes delicious it is incredibly great for your immune system too. Drink as a maintenance of good health or in the wake of a looming sickness. The blend contains foraged spruce needles and rose hips harvested at peak potency accompanied by homegrown lemon balm and hibiscus flowers.

 

Yule Tea

A festive blend of sustainably foraged and homegrown herbs to help support your immune systems function & keep sickness at bay. This blend is also very calming to the digestive system and goes great after a big meal. Contains cedar, chaga mushroom, sweet fern, spearmint and rose hips.

 

Chaga Mushroom

Chaga is an incredible healer mushroom found growing in most northern parts of the world. It is a parasitic fungus that attacks birch trees exclusively and it appears as a huge charcoal like growth on the tree. It sucks the nutrients from the tree and stores them inside its reserves until it fully takes over and destroys its host. It is an incredible anti-inflammatory and antioxidant and has been used to help battle cancer and tumours with much success. It is immunomodulating meaning it can help an overactive or under active immune system. It can also be used to help issues associated with arthritis, the heart, liver and gastrointestinal system. While also helping to lower cholesterol and blood pressure. Chaga can have blood thinning properties so use with caution if on blood thinners or prior to surgery or medical procedures. Brew chaga chunks low and slow in a pot on the stove, do not boil. The ideal brewing time Is 6-12 hours. You want your finished tea to be very dark in colour. Chunks can be frozen and used again.

 

Winters Night Candle Set

Each candle set is hand dipped with love and intention under the full moon. Made with local beeswax and dressed in the festive herbs of foraged spruce and rose hips. Burn to let in more light into your life in the darkness of winter. These candles are made free of essential oils or chemicals. Burn time is 4+hrs. Caution: the candle and the herbs they are dressed in are flammable so please use wth supervision and caution

 

Cedar & Chaga Soap

Handmade cold processed soap made in small batches with our homegrown mangalitsa lard and herbal infused oils. Mangalitsa lard is a healthy fat wth benefits not only for the inside but the outside of your body too. Paired with the herbal infusions of cedar and chaga this soap takes extra good care of your skin. Your skin is your largest organ on your body so why not feed it something good for it? This soap will leave your skin feeling silky smooth and is incomparable to modern day fat free soaps. Contains Mangalitsa lard, coconut oil, chaga and cedar tea and cedar infused sunflower oil. Essential oil, dye and chemical free.

Old Fashioned Cough Syrup

This old fashioned cough syrup is made just like your elders used to use. You know what the saying “a spoon full of sugar helps the medicine go down” is a good description of herbal syrups. This syrup is made with brandy and some expectorant, decongestant and demulcent herbs to help work up phlegm and sooth passageways. It has antimicrobial and numbing properties to help battle bacteria, stubborn painful sore throats and coughing attacks. Made of white horehound, mullein, toothache cress, lemon juice, brown sugar, living water, honey and brandy. Take 3-5 drops alone, as needed like you would a cough syrup. Can also use as a gargle. This syrup should be kept cold or In a refrigerator. Its shelf life is up to one year if stored properly. 

 

Tinctures

Below you will find a list of tinctures included in your box. Tinctures are a great sustainable way to get a lot out of a little from the plants around you. The benefits and nutrients are extracted slowly out of the plants or fungi over a lengthy period of time. You only need a few drops to reap the benefits instead of a large quantity in comparison to other ways of working with plants like in supplements, teas, essential oils etc. The shelf life of a tincture is also extremely long in comparison to the potency of dried herb. You can take your tinctures by placing a drop in your mouth, drop it into your morning tea, coffee or a short of water. Tinctures can also be used topically in some applications.

 

Chaga Tincture

1 oz bottle of wildcrafted Chaga tincture. Made from sustainably foraged chaga mushrooms from our homestead. Made from a strong grain alcohol and natural living spring water. Double extraction process to ensure all healing properties are extracted to the fullest. A great immune & energy booster.

Flu Fighter Elixir

1 oz bottle of flu fighter elixir. Made with homegrown elderflower, elecampane root, ginger root, catnip , reishi mushroom extracted slowly in Ontario made brandy. Then the reishi mushrooms are double extracted and added back to the formula. Fresh rose hips have been made into a syrup with local honey to sweeten things up and add a boost of vitamin C. This combination of herbs will help enhance your immune system and aid it to function properly when faced with a cold or illness. These soothing, antibacterial, antiviral, expectorant herbs help to help target respiratory colds or flus, coughs, congestion, sore throats as well as bacterial and viral gastroenteritis.
